This coveted recognition represents the pinnacle of excellence for private clubs, placing BHYC among the top 1% of private clubs worldwide. Achieving Platinum Club status is a testament to our unwavering commitment to providing an unparalleled experience for our members and guests.
A Journey to Excellence
In 2023, BHYC proudly held the designation of an “Honorable Mention” Club, narrowly missing full Platinum recognition by just five points. This year, through steadfast dedication and focus on excellence, we’ve ascended to the ranks of the Platinum Clubs, showcasing our growth and evolution as one of the finest private clubs in the nation.
The Platinum Standard
Platinum Club status is determined based on seven selection criteria, which are reviewed and voted upon by an Advisory Board comprised of General Managers, Chief Executives, and Board Presidents from across the country. These criteria are:
- Universal Recognition
- Excellence in Amenities and Facilities
- Caliber of Staff and Professional Service Levels
- Engagement and Commitment of Membership
- Governance and Prudent Fiscal Management
- Adapting to Changing Times
- Overall Experience
The Platinum Clubs of America selection process is highly competitive, with over 4,000 votes cast during a three-week voting period that occurs every two years. This prestigious award is granted to only 300 clubs nationally, divided into categories: 50 golf clubs, 150 country clubs, 50 city clubs, 30 yacht clubs, and 20 athletic clubs. We are proud to be one of the only two yacht clubs on the Great Lakes to receive this honor, and one of just six clubs of all types in Michigan to be awarded this distinction.
